  • Get 5% Rewards back every time you redeem, as a bonus to use toward your next redemption
  • Earn a $250 Vacation Credit towards one RCI vacation when you spend $10,000 in net purchases each calendar year

Is RCI Elite Rewards MasterCard worth it?

RCI Elite Rewards MasterCard is a solid card for RCI members and people who utilite RCI services. Membership is limited to people owning a timeshare at an RCI affiliated resort. RCI calls themselves the largest timeshare vacation exchange network in the world, and there are nearly 4 million members.

Although RCI sounds exclusive to members only, there is a program called RCI Platinum ? an $89 membership that provides discounts on select vacations booked through your account, including 25% off Guest Certificates you can share with family and friends. They are basically providing you the opportunity to purchase discounted gift cards redeemable for RCI purchases.

The rewards rate for RCI purchases is great: RCI Elite Rewards MasterCard cardholders earn 5X Rewards for every $1 spent on all eligible RCI purchases and 2X Rewards for every $1 spent on all eligible travel purchases. It’s a good rewards rate, because the points are worth about one cent. Other RCI currency, like RCI points, can sometimes be worth less; for example, a one-day car rental with Avis to and from JFK in New York cost $70 or about 8,000 RCI points. That’s less than one cent per point.

All in all, RCI Elite Rewards MasterCard is a solid card for RCI timeshare owners already spending money with RCI, who would like to travel more with RCI, but at a discount by redeeming their Rewards.

Pros

  • 5X Rewards for every $1 spent on all eligible RCI purchases
  • 2X Rewards for every $1 spent on all eligible travel purchases
  • Travel purchases and redemptions are reasonably defined as Airlines, Hotels, Motels, Campgrounds, Car Rental Agencies, Cruise Lines, Travel Agencies, Discount Travel Sites, Trains, Buses, Taxis, Limousines, and Ferries
  • You get a $250 Vacation Credit towards one RCI vacation when you spend $10,000 in net purchases each calendar year. You cannot combine vacation credits, but cardholders have a full 13 months from the date they receive their $250 vacation credit to use it.
  • No foreign transaction fee
  • No annual fee

Cons

  • Make sure you’re ready to go when you book with your vacation credit – no refunds will be granted 30 days or fewer from the check-in date
  • No cash back with this card

Is Citi Double Cash worth it?

Citi Double Cash is a great card for cardholders who will pay their balance off on time and are looking for a flat-rate unlimited cash back card. Customers earn 1% cash back on all purchases and an additional 1% cash back for making on-time payments.

Pros

  • 1% cash back on all purchases and 1% when cardholder pays the balance on-time
  • Longer than average 18 month 0% Intro balance transfer period
  • No annual fee

Cons

  • No Intro bonus
  • Foreign transaction fee

Why 5 Stars?

Regular APR

The normal, ongoing APR of 17.24% that applies to any balance you carry is below 20%. That’s a better than average credit card interest rate, but nothing to get excited about.
4 Stars

Intro APR

There’s no intro APR on purchases, so don’t get this card to buy something big you can’t pay off. But on the other hand, the balance transfer intro APR is 0% for 18 months. That’s about as good as it gets.
5 Stars

Fees

There’s no annual fee and no foreign transaction fee, which is always good news. But the cash advance fee is higher than average at 5%, plus there is an up to 29.99% penalty APR that kicks in if you miss a payment by paying late or having your payment returned. There are a lot of cards that don’t have a penalty APR at all.
4 Stars

Perks

Unlimited 2% cash back – 1% when you make a purchase and 1% when you pay the bill – is as high as it gets. Sure, you can get higher cash back in revolving categories that you have to keep track of, but Citi Double Cash doesn’t make you jump through any hoops to get your cash.
5 Stars

Overall

Get this card for the cash back or for the balance transfer option. Yeah the APR isn’t amazing and the fees have some gotchas, but if you can pay off your balance on time and avoid cash advances, you’ll be fine.
