Is American Express Blue Business Plus worth it?

American Express Blue Business Cash is a solid starter card for businesses with 2X Membership Rewards points on everyday business purchases up to $50,000 per calendar year, then 1X on all purchases thereafter. That means any purchase you make for your business will earn 2X points.

To earn 2X Membership Rewards points and get their face value, you must redeem them for eligible purchases, such as air, prepaid hotels, vacation packages (flight + hotel packages) or cruise reservations. Those categories cover almost everything in travel, but it’s important to note that for car reservations, non-prepaid hotels, and ticketing services, your points have half the value.

With no annual fee and a 12 month intro period on purchases and balance transfers, this may be a good card for someone starting a business who travels. This card is almost identical to American Express Blue Business Cash, except as noted it earns American Express Membership Rewards points, which have the highest value when redeemed for travel, instead of cash back.

Pros

  • 2X Membership Rewards points on everyday business purchases up to $50,000
  • Allows some spending above your credit limit
  • No annual fee

Cons

  • Lower than average ongoing travel rewards rate

Is American Airlines AAdvantage MileUp Credit Card worth it?

American Airlines AAdvantage MileUp is a great card for people who fly American Airlines from time to time, but don’t want an annual fee card. Cardholders earn 2 AAdvantage miles on every dollar spent on American Airlines purchases and at grocery stores, including grocery delivery services.

The card has no annual fee, and as a result you get no first free checked bag and no preferred boarding, which is offered by the other AAdvantage cards issued by Citi. That said, the welcome bonus takes only $500 in spend to hit, so if you’re looking to fly American Airlines and don’t want to shell out for a more premium travel card, American Airlines AAdvantage MileUp is a great card for you.

Pros

  • Earn 2 AAdvantage miles for each $1 spent at grocery stores, including grocery delivery services
  • Earn 10,000 American Airlines AAdvantage Bonus Miles and Receive a $50 statement credit after making $500 in purchases within the first 3 months

Cons

  • Foreign transaction fee – not good for a travel card, unless you only travel domestically
  • No first free checked bag
  • No preferred boarding
