Is U.S. Bank FlexPerks Select+ American Express Card worth it?
U.S. Bank FlexPerks Select+ American Express is a solid, simple card with no annual fee for people who like U.S. Bank travel rewards. Cardholders earn 1 FlexPoint per $1 you spend and you get a 10,000 FlexPoint signup bonus when you spend $1,000 in the first four months, worth $150 in travel. This values the points you earn at one and half cents per point.
The good part about U.S. Bank reward flights is that you earn frequent flyer miles on the airline you fly with on your FlexPerks award travel flight, if you are a member of the airline?s loyalty program. The bad part about U.S. Bank travel is that consumers have reported that there is no cancellation as soon as you book with points. If you can?t make it, the points are gone.
If you’re looking to get a no annual fee card, you would get a higher rewards rate with U.S. Bank Cash 365 American Express, which offers unlimited 1.5% cash back on every purchase, or U.S. Bank Cash+ Visa Signature, which offers 5% cash back on your first $2,000 in combined purchases each quarter, on two categories you choose, and 2% cash back on one everyday category you choose, like gas stations, grocery stores or restaurants.
If you find pleasure in regularly finding ways to save money, you might be well served with U.S. Bank Cash+ Visa Signature’s 5% cash back categories that you choose each quarter. Otherwise, between these two no annual fee U.S. Bank consumer cards, our recommendation would be to get U.S. Bank Cash+ Visa Signature for its unlimited 1.5% cash bank. You would be getting the exact same rewards rate 1.5% as you get with U.S. Bank FlexPerks Select+, but in the form of cash back, the most flexible currency of them all.
Despite the relative low rewards of U.S. Bank FlexPerks Select+, one other nice feature it has, which U.S. Bank Cash+ Visa Signature also has by the way, is a reasonable balance transfer fee of 3% and 0% Intro APR for the first 9 billing cycles on balance transfers made in the first 60 days. You wouldn’t get this card for balance transfers unless you specifically wanted to transfer your credit card debt to U.S. Bank though, because there are other cards with other banks that have longer balance transfer periods up to 12, 15, or 18 months, several with no balance transfer fee.
With all that said, earning travel rewards can be satisfying and something worth working towards, and if you value U.S. Bank travel rewards more than cash back, U.S. Bank FlexPerks? Select+ American Express is a solid card for you.
Pros
- No annual fee
- 0% Intro APR for the first 9 billing cycles on any balances transferred within 60 days from account opening
